Laura Matthews & The Flakes

I am very proud of my debut album Not Again, with its raw emotionality and delineation of an artistic and personal journey. I am also so very proud to have got my new band Laura Matthews & The Flakes together. We are all well-honed musicians from the hood of Kensal Green, creating a sound we call Kensal Country! We got Steve on electric, Chris on bass, Wills on the bucket and bvs, and Humphrey on cello. The Flakes and I play songs from on and off the album, and also certain loved Americana/Folk/pop classics, with a gusto, drive and frenzy that we hope will intoxicate. Come down and see for yourselves.

Pam and The Avett Brothers

It was the gig of a lifetime. ‘That was good’, they said. Jesus, you guys must all by British. That was fucking amazing. Steve loosened up immediately, but then he owns a lot of good guitars. The cello player was slow to follow, but that’s a cello player for you, unless you happen to be a pivotal member of the Avett Brothers and their mad Asian bloke who holds his cello like a well rehearsed dancing partner. She moves with him, sways with him. I’m sure they rehearsed forever, that she rests near him in the bed when he awakes.
My body is sore, feels the punishing imprint of the not refurbished cinema seats on its frame. The stairs were merciless but it was worth it. So beyond worth it. It was one of the best things i ever did, an experience i will remember forever. Rocking out with the Avett Brothers at the Shepherds Bush 02 with John and Joanna, many cool music lovers of all ages and descriptions, not to mention Laura Matthews and the Flakes. Rock on Flakes, you’re next.

Goodheart Premiere

I am very happy to have been part of Goodheart, the documentary feature by
Peter Dumont and Pamela Goodheart Zarubica. Pamela helped and guided me all the way along, with every aspect of my album, and for that, and more, I am deeply grateful. Peter asked me for for the instrumentals of the songs from my album, to go in his film. A really great pairing.

Philip Glass once said something along the lines, that in watching a film, you should be able to see the music and hear the imagery. Come and see and hear for yourselves.
